92% OF Afghan Men Oblivious about 9/11 or why USA and NATO invadid
An overwhelming majority of Afghans have no idea about the September 2001 terror attacks against the US, even though it resulted in an American-led invasion of their country and a decade of occupation.
A modern Westerner would instantly recognize the image of a huge plane crashing into a skyscraper in an inferno of burning fuel. What happened 10 years ago was the pivoting point for global affairs.
America found itself in the middle of the War on Terror. Osama Bin Laden grew in the public eye from a second-rate terrorist to a global villain on a par with Hitler. Afghanistan, where the leader of Al-Qaeda was supposedly hiding, saw an invasion and 10 years of bloody guerilla warfare. For many American soldiers and officers fighting the Taliban in Afghanistan, 9/11 is a great moral support, a reason to be where they are.
But for most Afghans the words “nine eleven” and the images of the attack have no meaning at all, as British journalist Adam Pletts discovered while he was looking for a story with an unusual angle.
“I was aware that there would be a lot of news coverage at the time of the 10-year anniversary of 9/11, but that most of this would focus on world events from a Western perspective, so I wanted to get the points of view of Afghans, who have also been deeply affected by 9/11,” he explained.
Pletts went to Helmand province in southern Afghanistan – the place bearing the brunt of the fighting between Taliban and coalition forces – with a bunch of 9/11 photos and showed them to locals. The typical answer was: “No, we have never heard about this.”

He talked to dozens of Afghans, some youths, who lived most of their lives with a US presence in their country, some elders, who were adults long before the terror attack on America happened. Even a local translator, who works with the coalition troops every day, did not recognize the photos.
“I showed the pictures to about 80 individuals. I was only able to speak directly to about 15 of these, but the reactions of the majority of people looking at the pictures were clear,” the journalist says.
When asked about what place was in the pictures, most simply had no idea or speculated that it must have been in Kabul, the Afghan capital.
“If I’d just got here I would have been surprised, but having been here now for six months I’m not. This is pretty much the stone ages where we are,” commented US Marines Captain Zachary Shore, who accompanied Pletts in the investigation.
The idea that the photos showed a New York building being reduced to rubble by some terrorists from Afghanistan seemed astounding to the locals. One said:
“Afghanistan doesn’t even have a donkey. How can Afghanistan come to this point and get the airplane from here to attack the United States? They don’t have that much power.”
Captain Shore says he can sympathize with such rejection: “When you can’t even feed yourself or house yourself, how are you going to care about somebody 6,000 miles away? So I can understand that. But I never thought to ask those questions to anybody here, as to why we’re here.”
The only person Pletts interviewed who instantly recognized what the pictures showed and make the connection with the reality in Afghanistan today was a district police chief in Marjah. Some of his men, however, were genuinely surprised and asked for details. And they still were not convinced at all that the perpetrators of 9/11 were Afghans.
A survey taken in 2010 by the International Council on Security and Development found that 92 per cent of Afghan men in Helmand and other Afghan provinces had no idea what 9/11 was. The eyebrow-rising statistic was no surprise for the British journalist, after what he personally saw and heard.
With American troops set to start withdrawing this year, it seems likely that they will leave Afghanistan without the vast majority of Afghans ever having really understood why they came in the first place.

EU draws up plans to establish itself as ‘world power’
The European Union has drawn up secret plans to establish itself as a global power in its own right with the authority to sign international agreements on behalf of member states.
A letter conferring a full “legal personality” for the Union has been drafted in order for a new European diplomatic service to be recognised as fully fledged negotiators by international bodies and all non-EU countries. According to one confidential paper, the first pilot “embassies” are planned in New York, Kabul and Addis Ababa.
The move is highly symbolic in Britain as it formally scraps the “European Community”, the organisation in which Britons originally voted to remain in the country’s only referendum on Europe 34 years ago.

Diseased African Monkeys Used to Make Swine Flu Vaccines; Private Military Contractor Holds Key Patents
The vaccine is derived from the kidneys of African Green Monkeys who are first infected with the virus, then allowed to fester the disease, and then are killed so that their diseased organs can be used make vaccine ingredients. The Russians Are Coming!
A senior Russian military official said Wednesday that Russian nuclear-powered attack submarines spotted off the U.S. East Coast were on a legitimate training mission.
U.S. defense officials said Tuesday that two Russian submarines had been patrolling in international waters for several days. While the activity was reminiscent of the Cold War, the U.S. officials said the submarines had done nothing to provoke concern.
Gen. Anatoly Nogovitsyn, a deputy chief of the General Staff of the Russian military, said the patrols were part of efforts to give more training to the military forces.
"The Navy mustn’t rest dockside," Nogovitsyn said at a news conference.
The submarine patrols coincided with angry words from Moscow about U.S. military assistance to Georgia a year after the Russian-Georgian war.
Blackwater Founder Accused of Murder, Encouraging a ‘Christian Crusade’ to Eliminate Islam
A former Blackwater employee and an ex-US Marine who has worked as a security operative for the company have made a series of explosive allegations in sworn statements filed on August 3 in federal court in Virginia. The two men claim that the company’s owner, Erik Prince, may have murdered or facilitated the murder of individuals who were cooperating with federal authorities investigating the company. The former employee also alleges that Prince "views himself as a Christian crusader tasked with eliminating Muslims and the Islamic faith from the globe," and that Prince’s companies "encouraged and rewarded the destruction of Iraqi life."
In their testimony, both men also allege that Blackwater was smuggling weapons into Iraq. One of the men alleges that Prince turned a profit by transporting "illegal" or "unlawful" weapons into the country on Prince’s private planes. They also charge that Prince and other Blackwater executives destroyed incriminating videos, emails and other documents and have intentionally deceived the US State Department and other federal agencies. The identities of the two individuals were sealed out of concerns for their safety.

Best Buy’s sales pitch often differs from what you’ll encounter if you actually try to use your warranty. For example, they say you’ll get a new TV if yours needs to be repaired four times. In reality, they can toss you a refurb or rebuilt model. They also claim that they’ll give you a loaner TV, but that’s nowhere in the contract.

The longest solar eclipse in this century is scheduled to become visible on the west coast of India at dawn on Wednesday (NASA has images and charts showing where the eclipse will be visible and when).
The event is drawing scientists and eclipse enthusiasts from around the world, eager for a truly once in a lifetime experience. But for millions of Indians, the rare astronomical event is a source of dread.
The pending eclipse has become a stage where fact and myth, modern science and Hindu mythology are competing for public acceptance. Rumsfeld Sent Bush War Memos Covered With Christian Propaganda
Recently leaked memos to President Bush on the war status in Iraq that are peppered with biblical references supposedly designed to coerce the president into "staying the course" because it is god’s will. \
It’s appalling on so many levels: that Rumsfeld thought that polishing up his report with the jingoistic equivalent of a clear plastic binder would win him points; that it apparently worked; that religion was used to promote war in the White House; that it was used despite the fact that it could worsen our chances of success. And we still have Dick Cheney doing a cheerful media tour encouraging us to support torture, which really wasn’t torture, but if it was, it was good for us.

Being a taxpayer-subsidized, too-big-to-fail institution, it’s possible that one of the few ways for Wells Fargo & Co. to know what it is doing is to notify itself with a court filing. In this particular case, Wells Fargo holds the first and second mortgages on a condominium, according to Sarasota, Fla., attorney Dan McKillop, who represents the condo owner. As holder of the first, Wells Fargo is suing all other lien holders, including the holder of the second, which is itself.
"The primary reason is to clear title and ownership interest in a property to prepare it for sale," Waetke said in an email exchange. "So it really is not Wells Fargo vs. Wells Fargo."
Yet court documents clearly label "Wells Fargo Bank NA" as the plaintiff and "Wells Fargo Bank NA" as a defendant. Wells Fargo hired Florida Default Law Group., P.L., of Tampa, Fla., to file the lawsuit against itself. And then Wells Fargo hired another Tampa law firm Kass, Shuler, Solomon, Spector, Foyle & Singer P.A. to defend itself against its own lawsuit, according to court documents.
It takes some pretty shameless lawyers and a rich culture of corporate stupidity for a company to sue itself. I hope Wells Fargo loses this case and ends up having to drag itself all the way to the Supreme Court.

Cheney Linked to Concealment of C.I.A. Project
The Central Intelligence Agency withheld information about a secret counterterrorism program from Congress for eight years on direct orders from former Vice President Dick Cheney, the agency’s director, Leon E. Panetta, has told the Senate and House intelligence committees, two people with direct knowledge of the matter said Saturday.
The report that Mr. Cheney was behind the decision to conceal the still-unidentified program from Congress deepened the mystery surrounding it, suggesting that the Bush administration had put a high priority on the program and its secrecy.
Mr. Panetta, who ended the program when he first learned of its existence from subordinates on June 23, briefed the two intelligence committees about it in separate closed sessions the next day.
Efforts to reach Mr. Cheney through relatives and associates were unsuccessful.
The question of how completely the C.I.A. informed Congress about sensitive programs has been hotly disputed by Democrats and Republicans since May, when Speaker Nancy Pelosi accused the agency of failing to reveal in 2002 that it was waterboarding a terrorism suspect, a claim Mr. Panetta rejected.
The law requires the president to make sure the intelligence committees “are kept fully and currently informed of the intelligence activities of the United States, including any significant anticipated intelligence activity.” But the language of the statute, the amended National Security Act of 1947, leaves some leeway for judgment, saying such briefings should be done “to the extent consistent with due regard for the protection from unauthorized disclosure of classified information relating to sensitive intelligence sources and methods or other exceptionally sensitive matters.”

Federal Reserve Threatens the US Government over Congressional scrutiny
The Federal Reserve warned on Thursday that a growing congressional threat to curtail its independence would destabilise markets and raise the cost of servicing US debt for “current and future generations”.
Ron Paul, the Texas Republican, has gathered the support of a majority of the House of Representatives for a bill that would audit the Fed’s monetary policy decisions. He told a Congressional hearing he wanted the power to prevent the Fed being “secret and clandestine and serving special interests”.
